Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2026

Plain-English summary

FictionOS is software for planning, writing, revising, and exporting fiction with AI assistance. You keep rights to your creative output, subject to provider and platform terms. Live generation uses your OpenRouter key, so you are responsible for provider charges. Export important work, follow the law, and do not abuse the service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using FictionOS ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

FictionOS is AI-assisted fiction production software that helps plan, write, revise, and export long-form fiction through a multi-step workflow. The Service uses third-party AI models via OpenRouter to generate text.

3. User Accounts

You must create an account to use the Service. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.

4. Content Ownership

You retain all rights to the content you create using FictionOS. The generated text, characters, plots, and all creative elements belong to you. We claim no ownership over your generated content.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Generate content that violates any applicable laws
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer or extract the underlying prompts or pipeline logic
  • Share your account credentials with third parties
  • Exceed rate limits or abuse the API

6. Payments and Refunds

Payments are processed through Stripe. Your FictionOS subscription is separate from OpenRouter/model-provider charges. Refunds may be issued at our discretion for failed or incomplete service events.

7. BYOK Mode

If you use your own OpenRouter API key ("Bring Your Own Key" mode), you are responsible for any API charges incurred directly with OpenRouter. We are not liable for costs associated with your own API keys.

8. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
